Why exhibit?
The short answer? Exhibitions are a great way to make your brand seen, while also gaining relevant networking opportunities and observing what other companies in your field are up to.
The long answer? While, as with anything, there are potential downsides (financial constraints, time constraints, etc), exhibitions are often beneficial for a multitude of reasons, including, but not limited to:
Gaining relevant exposure:
It’s implied that guests in attendance at business exhibitions are there for a reason, after all they’ve made time to attend, and paid for transport and tickets; making the most of this fact is perhaps the most important aspect of exhibiting at an event. A well designed stand with relevant information and helpful, well presented staff can work wonders in attracting guests (i.e. potential customers).
Often exhibitions are reviewed on industry websites or in industry publications, so being present can also lead to exposure after the event.
Brand building:
Your presence alone can be beneficial for your brand. If the design of your stand and staff uniforms fit with your brands colour scheme and mood, literature available uses your brand’s typeface, and your logo is clearly on display, guests will recognise and remember you. This is a double sided coin though; it is important to make a good impression at the event otherwise you’ll be remembered negatively! This can be achieved by ensuring you have sufficient information available and that your staff are well presented and well trained.
Gauging responses:
Following up leads isn’t just useful in terms of sales; you can also determine how your brand was perceived at the exhibition and use this information to shape future efforts. If, for example, contacts expressed interest at the show but backed away after seeing your company website, perhaps it’s time for a redesign? Inversely, if contacts’ feedback mentions they switched from a competitor’s to your business after seeing you exhibit, perhaps it’s time for some office drinks!
